Visitor Information

Opening times
10.00am – 5.00pm (Last entry 4.30pm)
Tuesday to Saturday, and Bank Holiday Mondays
The museum is also open on occasional Sundays for special events.

Physical access to almost all the site is provided by two passenger lifts. The Discovery and Singing Galleries can be accessed by a stair lift with accompanying wheelchair.

Due to our location on Castle Green, there is no on-site parking, except for one allocated disabled space, which can be booked by calling 01823 255088. It is possible to drop off disabled passengers outside the museum. Please contact us if you require assistance in accessing the museum.

There is level access on each floor with ample space to manoeuvre between displays. Some doors open automatically. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor.

Entry to the museum is free. Charges apply for some activities and events. Pre-booking is required for guided tours and some activities. Please see details of individual events on our events listings in the Information and Resources section of this page or contact the museum for details.

Cafe and Shop
The museum café offers home-made Somerset treats, and is the perfect venue for a light lunch or afternoon tea.

The museum shop, based in the welcome building, stocks a range of reasonably-priced souvenirs, gifts, cards, toys and books including the ‘Made in Somerset’ range of local food and drink.

Directions and Parking

The museum is in the centre of Taunton, on Castle Green, close to the bus station with several public car parks nearby.
