Captured in Time: The Art of Harry Frier

Life in Taunton, its people and places, are captured in time for an exhibition of watercolours opening on Saturday 19 March. Harry Frier is one of Somerset‘s best known artists. His paintings document life in and around Taunton during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The exhibition includes scenes of Taunton, the surrounding villages and countryside.

The Becket Casket

A jewelled and enamelled casket depicting medieval England’s most infamous murder is going on display at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. The Becket Casket, made in about 1180, held relics of St Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.  He was murdered in 1170 by knights who had Somerset and Devon roots and were followers of King Henry II.
